Corruption is the abuse of public power for private gain. Corruption is unfair and allows those with money or connections to bend the law or government rules in their personal favor, even if that will hurt many other people.
Corruption is expensive and hinders a country’s progress and development: · It reduces the amount of money the government has for public services and works, like building schools, roads and hospitals. · It weakens people’s trust and confidence in the government.· It discourages businesses from operating, which makes the country poorer in the end.
Everyone, even you, can help eradicate corruption by choosing not to give or receive bribes, choosing to achieve things through hard work and honesty, and speaking out when you see corruption around you.
